Description
A large carved Treasure or Feather Box with ornate carvings. The Wakahuia is a sacred vessel such as a canoe or anything designed to carry and protect sacred objects. Traditionally used for storing valuables “Taonga” such as special carvings or the feathers of the Huia bird worn on ceremonial occasions. This Kauri Wakahuia is beautifully carved and inlaid with New Zealand Paua ( abalone) shell. On the top is carved a Tiki figure, for good luck. The rest is carved in traditional Maori spirals, and beautiful carved feathers. Inside the box is also hand-carved. A treasure that you can also hand down.
